Whether you’re a new pet owner and are setting up a fish tank, or a aquarist doing fish tank maintenance, you will need to perform aquarium water treatment. This is because your aquatic pets need a healthy environment in order to survive and thrive. Keep in mind that an unbalanced underwater environment can be detrimental to the health of your fish pets.

If you want to add or change the tank water, your usual water source is your faucet. However, tap water isn’t really safe for aquatic pets. This is why you have to treat tap water with aquarium water treatment products such as conditioners. And because tap water usually contain chlorine, you might also need to use de-chlorinators when treating your tank water. Another chemical usually found in tap water is ammonia. So, you also need to use ammonia stabilizers when looking for aquarium water treatment products.
