Political Apparel

The 2008 U.S. presidential election is finally over.  We can all now breathe a sigh of relief, and take a minute to look back on the trivia of the last two years.  Compared to past election cycles, it has often seemed that clothes have dominated the discussion.  Who can possibly forget the flap over Sarah Palin’s hundred-fifty-thousand dollar wardrobe?  Somehow, the Republicans weren’t able to get the voting public to buy the image of a regular “Joe Six Pack” vice presidential candidate when she was spending many times their annual salary at Neiman Marcus. Also, who can possibly forget the Obama rainbow “O” logo that was plastered on everything from billboards and bumper stickers to caps to shoes?  Literally hundreds of Obama T-Shirts incorporated the logo, some of which were official and many of which were not.  Popular T-shirts worn and sold at Republican rallies included slogans such as “NObama” and “Obamanation”.  Clothing was definitely a popular way of conveying one’s opinion.
