There are various backup utilities you can use. There is backup software you can purchase such as the services and programs sold by Symantec. Backup software can be used on desktops, laptops, and servers and come in Windows or Mac versions. Some backup software will do an online backup as well. Using your internet connection to send your documents and information to a server online.
Online backup can be useful for people who just need small personal backups of pictures or personal documents. But online backup may not be the best solution for a business. A business might want to purchase backup software and an internal server to save company information on. Someone working from home might also want backup software and an external hard drive to save their information to.
But an online backup might be just as unreliable as a personal backup using backup software to an external hard drive. Online servers can crash, and external drives can get corrupted or break. It is always a good idea to have a computer backup in more than one place. Redundancy will save hassle and the trouble of lost documents in the end if anything ever happens to your computer.
